Abell 2151

Abell 2151 is also known as the Hercules Galaxy Cluster because of its location in Hercules. This cluster of galaxies is fairly distant at an average distance of 500 million light years. It’s staggering to think that we can see detail in galaxies so distant with amateur equipment!

There are over 200 galaxies in the cluster though this image doesn’t show all of them. I cropped the image to provide a more aesthetic framing so some were left out but even so, some are likely too dim to show up. Even so, there are a lot of galaxies in this one. It’s worth looking at the full size image and panning around!

This is 28h 20m of RGB data. For all the technical details, see astrobin.
