Sh2-168 and Sh2-169

Sh2-168 is the brighter nebula toward the bottom and Sh2-169 is the fainter one to the top right. These are emission nebulae in Cassiopeia. Sh2-168 is around 12,000 light years away but I don’t have reference data form Sh2-169.

I used a new, well new-to-me, processing technique that starts with an HOO image and then adds S in as yellow. So I’ve called it HOOSY (HOO with S as Yellow) to help me remember what it is. In this particular image, it gave a depth to the image that a conventional SHO or pure HOO image was lacking. It also looks more like a true color image than SHO though it isn’t true color since the Sulfur II emission is also red and so would completely blend into the hydrogen alpha emission if it were rendered as its true color.

This is 33h 15m of HOOSY data (with RGB stars). For all the technical details, see astrobin.
