Wizard Nebula

The Wizard Nebula is an emission nebula in Cepheus. This is the second time I’ve image the Wizard. The first was in 2021 with the same telescope but the camera was changed earlier this year. I was still very happy with that image so I decided to explore other processing options this time and opted for the HOOSY palette. This is an HOO image with S added as yellow. This ended up creating a very different feel from the earlier image.

The nebula is often referred to as NGC 7380 but technically that’s an open cluster. I’ve not stretched the stars as much as the nebula so the star cluster is not very prominent here. The nebula itself is designed as Sh2-142 and LBN 511. NGC 7380 is about 8,500 light years away but I don’t have distance information on the nebula.

This is 29h 25m of narrowband and RGB data. For all the technical details, see astrobin.
