So many galaxies! Abell is a galaxy cluster in Pegasus. Its most prominent member is NGC 7720, the elliptical galaxy near the center. It’s about 365 million light years away and the cluster averages about 450 million light years away. It’s somewhat mind boggling to contemplate how long that light has journeyed to get here.
An image like this may not have the visual impact of some individual galaxies, when you think about how many galaxies are visible in this image and how many of them are as large as our own galaxy, it makes one realize just how tiny a part of our universe we are. So, while the galaxies may be far away and small in the frame, there are so many of them! Each with billions, if not hundreds of billions of stars. And this is just one of thousands of galaxy clusters we can see!
