LBN 96 and vdB 123 and the Serpens Molecular Cloud (RGB)

Summer may be over but the Summer of Darkness lives on! Only this time the darkness also includes some light in the form of reflection nebulae!

This is one of those images where the title is somewhat arbitrary. Both LBN 96 and vdB 123 are quite small reflection nebulae and the main feature, the dark clouds running through the image are apparently not named in any catalog — or at least any catalog my imaging software knows so while the Light gets the title, it’s really about them and all the amazing things going on around them!

With all that out of the way here’s what I can say about the things in the image: they are in the constellation Serpens. That’s it. I couldn’t find any data on either nebula in any authoritative source.

This is an image that would benefit from more integration time but, the weather at home was not very cooperative in late summer so I decided to declare it complete and process what I had.

This is 8h 46m 30s of RGB data. For all the technical details see astrobin.
