When I saw that Comet C/2017 T2 (PANSTARRS) was going to pass near the Double Cluster I figured I had to try to image it. I’d never done comet imaging before but I had see this presentation by club member Bob Traube and figured I’d give it a try.
As it turns out, it didn’t work well…not because the procedure was bad but because between the comet’s distance and the relatively short focal length the comet did not move much from frame to frame which was essential for this procedure to work.
In the video I got through the process and show how it failed for me but then at the end use the frame to produce a comet animation.
You can find the final animation on astrobin.
